Four Stroke Engine

This section contains a high level explanations of the typical Fuel Injected Four Stroke Engine. I hope after reviewing this section that you understand the three basic events needed to make a Four Stroke Engine function, Fuel, Compression, and Spark; more on that a little later.

Before we delve into the details of the combustion process, let's discuss what we are trying to accomplish.

For an automobile to move, it needs something that can create torque that is used to turn the wheels. This torque applied to the ground which moves the automobile.

The four stroke engine utilizes one or more pistons that move up and down but is converted into circular motion which is ultimately delivered to the wheels.

This is how up and down motion of the piston is converted into rotary motion.

Let's keep going to see how the pistion is forced to move up and down.
